Dragon Bond
I look up and see a shape right in front of me. I think it might be a human girl. She’s not moving, though, so I guess it’s okay that she’s here. I can’t see her very well because the bright light hurts my eyes. I blink a few times and then squint a little because it makes them feel better.
I look around for the first time to see where I’m at. I’m in a large room that has lots of beautiful colors. There’s a huge window. On the floor in front of it is a big basket with a blanket in it. Oh, I hope it’s a dragon bed, just for me.
Suddenly, I see the human girl’s hand start to reach out. Uh-oh, I think she’s going to try to touch me! That’s scary, so I take a couple of steps back and then crouch down low and give a little warning huff of my breath.
Her hand stops when it gets close to my face, and then I see her slowly move it down so it’s just under my nose. She’s smiling and then I hear the beautiful sound of her voice as she starts singing very softly to me. Her dragon song is wonderful and listening to it makes me feel very safe.
I give her hand a good sniff and I know her smell. I hear her singing and I know her voice. I open my dragon senses to her just a little bit and I know all of her.
I feel oh so happy because I finally remember her from when I was still inside my dragon egg. She’s the one who’s been with me since the beginning-time and, it was she who called to me to help me break through my shell on my hatching day. She’s my Dragonelle…my companion and best friend forever because we are bonded in the way of dragons.
As she continues her song, I open my senses even more and I suddenly know lots of things about her and this wonderful place and even about the dragon world. I take a deep, deep breath and then push it out in five quick bursts. The high pitched little toots of sound that come out of me are exactly the kind of noises I want to make to let her know how happy I am.
I’m so excited that I can’t hold it in any longer and I rush forward so I can open my wings part-way and touch the tips of them to her shoulders in a dragon bond greeting that is as old as time. I hear her laugh and then she reaches out and places her hands on either side of my neck, just above my wing joints. Our bond circle is now complete.
Soon, we’ll be able to talk with each other without having to make any noises at all. We’ll just be able to think things and we’ll hear each other. And, as soon as I grow big enough and strong enough, I’ll be able to fly. I’ll let her climb up on my back and then I’ll spread my wings and push back with my legs really, really hard so we can go high up in the air. We’ll go to all kinds of places and do all kinds of things together.
But, the best thing of all is that this is just the beginning of our adventures together, my human and me.
